Kathy L. Hayrynen
As Vice President of R&D, Dr. Kathy leads a team of metallurgists and experienced heat treaters responsible for establishing and executing Applied Process’s corporate research plan. In addition, she and her team team assist Applied Process customers with their development programs.
Dr. Kathy is a notable expert on the topic of austempering, authoring and co-authoring numerous technical papers and chapters for the ASM Handbooks. She has been awarded several academic/industry honors including: AFS Award of Scientific Merit, AFS Service Citation, AFS Ray H. Witt Management Award, DIS Annual Award, ASM Foundation George H. Roberts Award, Fellow of ASM, Fellow of Alpha Sigma Mu and Member of the MTU Materials Engineering Academy.
Dr. Kathy is a graduate of Michigan Technological University with a BS, MS and PhD in Metallurgical Engineering. Her graduate studies (including post-doctoral research) were all concerned with ductile iron and ADI.
